Ernst And Young ELP Day 2

28 07 2011

Day 2 at the EY ELP began a little earlier and we began with a “do you know the lyrics” game, which was quite entertaining to watch.  Then we engaged in a staff panel relating to EY development.  This was interesting to see how EY has affected each of its employees in a different way.  Probably the most beneficial part of the program was the service line simulation as I was able to do an actual problem that I could do as an intern.  This was very cool as I really enjoyed the audit problem, which made me completely sure of my audit career choice.  We then walked to the Bonaventure for lunch and had a presentation on how EY supports its people.  Another very valuable session was on the recruiting process which I will encounter in the fall.  This helped to accommodate me and let me get comfortable with what I will experience. We ended the program with a fashion show on how to dress for success and an ice cream social.  Overall the EY ELP provided some valuable information that I wish I could have in regards to all the firms I will be looking at.  I left the program with a better understanding of what my approach will be in the fall and I felt like the program was a success.

Ernst And Young ELP Day 1

28 07 2011

I had the privilege of attending the Ernst & Young Emerging Leaders Program this week.  We had two long days of hard work and learning which was ultimately so helpful in getting a better grasp on the firm as internship recruiting is fast approaching in the fall.  The day started with a fun famous couples ice breaker and an overview of EY.  We then got to work in teams to complete a toy building competition.  We then got a tour of the office, heard a valuable presentation on networking and enjoyed a nice lunch visit from the In-N-Out Truck.  Following lunch we got a very nice overview of the 3 main service lines; Advisory, Assurance, and Tax.  Each practice has its positives and negatives but it is nice to get a feel for each.  We then had to create a group commercial to highlight the “coolness” of accounting and present it to the entire program.  This was a chance to be creative and use any outside skills.  One of my favorite parts of the day was a volunteer activity for the Boys and Girls Club where we assembled children’s bikes.  I was part of the winning team and it was so gratifying to see the little girl get on and ride her new bike for the first time.  We ended the night with a session of jeopardy in the Regal cinema and a social at the Conga Room.  Overall day 1 was jam-packed but very insightful.
